Brought "Luna" (originally "Lucy"), into our home in mid November, 2011. Never thought we could become "Dachshund people", until my Daughter had moved back in with her "mini red" (I affectionately named "Red Rocket"). From the first night, She became "my dog", as she launched herself under our covers, burrowing to the bottom & incessently licking my feet. Our Yellow Lab. of over 15yrs, became her fast friend. As he was very old & couldn't see well any more, I think he just loved to have a buddy to lay in the sun with. He passed on the 4th of July holiday. Our little Red Rocket ("Penny" her real name), seemed lost. I figured both she & I needed a new friend. We decided to wait a few months to decide on getting a new dog, as we thought it best to not just jump back into a new puppy.
I began looking online @ mini's as a "partner in crime", for Penny & myself. Found Minigroundhounds & Whisper, in early Nov., right on the way to our cabin in the Gold Country. Called Whisper..., paid her & her puppies a visit..., the rest is history! Took Penny with us , for her "seal of approval". I fell in love w/ little "Lucy", right away. My wife & Red Rocket agreed, so "Lucy" was ours! We decided on the way home to change her name, but wanted something "close" that fit. She was very quiet & a bit shy, on the way home, & reminded me of a character "Luna", from Harry Potter. So it was settled, she became "Luna".
Well "quiet & shy" ended @ our front door & when she hit the ground with Penny. They became best of "tussling buddies".., all over the house, & remain so to this day! Originally, Luna was considerably smaller than Penny & we thought she might actually remain small/mini. But she hit a real "growth spurt" in January & now is passing a bit through "tweenie territory" @ 12 lbs even. Although bigger now than Penny, they remain best of friends & completely lost if not within barking earshot of each other.
She's now AKC registered as "Luna", Autumn's Whisper. Is 100% up to date on her health checks, shots, "chipping", nutering & grooming. She remains a gorgeous Dachshund, with a brilliant & devious intellect, very well mannered, learns very quickly & will remain a joy to be with, for the rest of our lives. We are now confirmed "Dachshund People"!
